The first competition of the 2017 ISSF Season closed today with the fifteenth and last final match: the Skeet Men.
The People’s Republic of China finished atop the final medal standings with 6 Golds and 6 Silvers, dominating both the Rifle and the Pistol events. In the first four days of competition, indeed, they reached the top of the podium six times, ruling both Air Rifle events, the men’s 25m Rapid Fire Pistol, the women’s 10m Air Pistol and both Rifle 3 Positions matches.
Following China, Italy took the 2nd place thanks to an outstanding performance in the Shotgun matches, where they secured 5 of the 15 total medals, nailing a Gold-Silver combo both in the men’s Trap and in the men’s Skeet.
Australia and Japan shared the 3rd place with 2 Golds and 1 Bronze each, while India, the host country of the inaugural competition of the season, also concluded with 5 total medals: 1 Gold, won by Jitu Rai in the 50m Pistol Men event, 2 Silvers and 2 Bronzes.
Thailand and the United States of America split the remaining two Gold medals of the competition.
Because of the new ISSF Technical Rules in fourteen of the fifteen events a new World Records has been set.
