Sonja PFEILSCHIFTER won the 2008 World Cup Series, earning Gold at today’s 50m Rifle Three Positions Women event at the ISSF World Cup Final in Bangkok. The German shooter found satisfaction after the frustrating result of the Games, where she had finished in 17th.

The 37-year old German shooter won today’s 50m Rifle Three Positions Women competition at the ISSF World Cup Final held in Bangkok, earning the valued title for the second time in her career (she had won also the 1999 edition of the competition).
PFEILSCHIFTER has been leading along the whole 2008 season. The German shooter won Silver at the pre-Olympic World Cup of Beijing, and later on the season she ruled the World Cup stages of Munch and Milan, securing two gold medals. Entering the Olympic Games of Beijing as the number one in the world, PFEILSCHIFTER deluded the expectation finishing in 17th place, a placement that did not mirror her qualities. With 688.8 points she won today’s World Cup Final, stating again her supremacy in this event.

The Olympic champion of Beijing, DU Li of China, finished her competition in ninth place, and did not enter the final round. Silver went to the Kazak shooter Olga DOVGUN, 38, who finished in second place only by a slight gap of 0.5 points from the first, with a total score of 688.3 points.

Bronze was awarded to the 2004 Olympic Champion Lioubov GALKINA of Russia, who secured the medal by outdoing the title defender YIN Wen of China in a shoot-off with a score of 683.5 + 10.4 to 683.5 + 9.8 points.

The Olympic finalist of Beijing Jamie BEYERLE of USA finished in fifth place with a total score of 680.3 points, preceding the Croatian shooter Snjezana PEJCIC and Beijing Bronze medallist Eglis Yaima CRUZ of Cuba. Morgan HICKS, the second American finalist, closed the final round in eighth place.
