The next scheduled shooting Olympic competition is the 50m Rifle Prone Men Event, which will take place the 15th of August. Who is the title defender? Who are his opponents?

The 50m Rifle Prone Men competition is scheduled for the 15th of August, at 11.30 AM Beijing time, and it will be the 12 out 15 shooting Olympic competition of the 2008 Olympic Games.

Title defender:
Matthew EMMONS of USA is going to defend the Olympic Gold medal he gained at the Games of Athens 2004, when he won the competition with a total score of 703.3 points.
EMMONS, a 2002 World Champion in this event, is currently ranked fifth in the world.
He comes to the Games with an excellent display of international medals gained in the last Olympic cycle: he won three different medals in the 2007 World Cup season, which he concluded with Silver at the World Cup Final.
EMMONS has been struggling in this event in the first months of the year, but he concluded the pre-Olympic season with a Bronze medal at the last 2008 World Cup stage held in Milan.

Contenders
The current number one in the world Warren POTENT of Australia is seeking for a medal in the 50m Rifle Three Positions Event. After a 20-year long career, he won his first ISSF World Cup medal in 2007, in Sydney, his home-town, qualifying for the 2008 Olympic Games. From there on, with a renewed freshness, the 46-year old Australian has reached four World Cup medals, and a Bronze at the 2007 ISSF World Cup Final of Bangkok.

The current World Record holder Sergei MARTYNOV is also a fierce sport-opponent of EMMONS. The Belarusian shooter needs almost no presentation to those in known of the shooting. Only 18 World Cup medals, four World Cup Final Golds, and the title of World Champion won in 2006 can describe this top rifle shooter, who has won two Olympic Bronzes (in Sydney and Athens) and still seeking for a Gold.
