Events preview: 50m Rifle 3 Positions Women and Skeet Women Events

50m Rifle Three Positions Women and Skeet Women finals will take place today, 14th of August. The finals will be held at 12.30 and 15.00 Beijing time. <br> Inside, the title defender and the favorites to finish on the podium of these two events.

50m Rifle Three Positions Women Event

Title defender:
Russia’s Lioubov GALKINA will try to defend her Olympic title won in Athens at the 50m Rifle Three Positions Women Event.
GALKINA, 39, has already won a Silver medal in the 10m Air Rifle Women competition, mirroring what had happed in Athens, where the Russian master had won Silver on the 10m distance and Gold in the 50m event.
GALKINA is the currently ranked ninth in the World Rank, and in the last two seasons she has won the 2006 World Championships of Zagreb and a Bronze medal at the 2008 pre-Olympic World Cup held in Beijing.

Contenders:
Sonja PFEILSCHIFTER of Germany is considered one of the favourite athletes to win a medal in the 50m Rifle Three Positions Women Event. The German rifle shooter is the current number in the World Rank, and has won the last two stages of the 2008 ISSF World Cup held in Munich and Milan.
The second German athlete Barbara LECHNER is also enlisted between the favourites, after the good placements she reached in the last Olympic cycle.
China’s colours will be defended by DU Li, the number two in the world that will be seeking for a medal after the defeating in the 10m Air Rifle final, finished in a fifth position.

Skeet Women

Title defender:
Diana IGALY of Hungary will try to defend her title in the Skeet Women event. Today. The 43-year old shooter struggled in the last Olympic cycle, remaining out of the top positions.
IGALY is currently ranked 25th in the world rank.

Contenders:
Chiara CAINERO is the top ranked athlete in the world in the Skeet Women event. After the Games of Athens 2004, where she had placed in eighth, she improved her results. Europe is her favourite field of battle: she won two European Championships, in 2006 and 2007. And in Europe she gained her most prestigious medals: Silver at the 2006 World Championships of Zagreb and a Bronze at the following 2007 World Championships of Nicosia.
Christine BRINKER of Germany wants the podium too – in her first Olympics – after winning the 2007 World Championships of Nicosia and competing at the highest levels in the last three years.
World’s number one WEI Ning, the Silver medallist of Athens, is also considered one of the best shooter in the world, and she will seek for a medal in front of her home spectators.
