Glenn ELLER of the USA shot two records to win Gold at today’s Double Trap Final. The 26-year old shooter did not left many chances to his opponents: he qualified with four targets of advantage and he never quit, shooing right to the Olympic Gold. D’ANIELLO of Italy and HU of China gained Silver and Bronze, respectively.

USA's shooter Glenn ELLER shot two Olympic Records to secure today’s Double Trap Men Gold. The 26-year old shooter qualified for the final round with a score of 145 out of 150 targets, a new Olympic Record that shattered the previous 144 set by Sheik Ahmed ALMAKTOUM of the UAE during the Games of Athens, and then won Gold with a final of 45 hits for a total of 190 targets, setting a new Final Olympic Record.
“These are my third Games, and finally I won my Gold - said the new Olympic champion - I had always placed far from the final in previous editions, this time I entered the match and I entered it in first!” ELLER had first taken part in an Olympic competition at Sydney 2000, at the sole age of 18 years, placing in 12 place. Than, at the Games of Athens 2004, he placed only in 17th, with great disappointment. “Sydney and Athens are old stories. I won this Gold, this is the best day of my life! I have to thank my great team, they are part of this victory.”
ELLER was followed by the Italian shooter Francesco D’ANIELLO who closed in second place with 187 targets (141+46). The Italian athlete took a brief look at the electronic scoreboard right after his last shot, exulting when he realized to be on the podium “I can’t believe it! I am an Olympic medallist! I only would like to hug my family, now. My four-years son told me “Dad, brake ‘em all”… Well, I did not brake all the targets, but I guess he will be happy anyway.”.
HU Binyuan of China reached Bronze with 184 hits (138+46) “I am happy with the Bronze. I tried to give my best, and I improved from my previous Olympic result. I had finished in fourth in Athens…” said HU answering to the Chinese journalists at the press conference “I am wearing the shooting suite of Athens 2004, that’s true - continued HU - I always dress the same clothes for training, and the same clothes to compete. So I though it would be a good thing to dress the same clothes to participate in the Games!”
The title defender, the first Olympic Gold medallist of the United Arab Emirates Sheik Ahmed ALMAKTOUM, did not make into the final round. He lost the shoot-off to get into the round, leaving space to the 1996 Olympic Champion Russell MARK of Australia, who eventually placed in fifth place “It’s great to be here! - said MARK – only a few months ago I was not even supposed to come to the Games. I already had a contract with a broadcaster to comment the Olympics… then I made into the team, and here I am. I could not be prepared at the best, since I had only 50 days or so to get ready. - continued MARK - but don’t worry, I will do better next time, in London, in four years. God save the Queen!”
