Events preview: 50m Pistol Men and Double Trap Men competitions

50m Pistol Men and Double Trap Event competitions are scheduled for the 12th of August, the fourth day of Olympic competitions. Let’s discover the title defenders and the names of their contenders.

50m Pistol Men Event

Title defender:
Mikhail NESTRUEV of the Russian Federation, 39, is the title defender in the 50m Pistol Men Event. He won the Olympic Gold of Athens with a total score of 663.3 points. NESTRUEV, has struggled in the last two international shooting season, and did not reach prime results in ISSF World Cup or World Championships.

Contenders:
There are several contenders that could challenge the title defender. The Silver and the Bronze medallist of Athens, JIN Jong Ho (KOR) and KIM Jong Su (PRK), are in the best condition. The two shooters finished on the podium also two days ago, winning Silver and Bronze in the 10m Air Pistol Men Event.
NESTRUEV will also face the current number one in the world ranking, Joao COSTA (POR), and the pistol master Vladimir ISAKOV (RUS).

Double Trap Men

Title defender:
Sheik Ahmed ALMAKTOUM (UAE), won the Olympic Gold in Double Trap Men Event at the last Olympic Games of Athens 2004, becoming the first Olympic Gold medallist ever of his country, the United Arab Emirates.
The title defender downplayed his chances of victory, a few days ago, speaking about his opponents and the weather conditions.
ALMAKTOUM won the 2005 ISSF World Championships held in Lonato, Italy, gaining an Olympic Quota Place to participate in the 2008 Games. IN 2007 and 2008 he seldom took part in international competitions, reaching no podium placements.

The contenders:
Richard FAULDS of Great Britain, Olympic Champion of Sydney 2000, is one of the favourite shooter to climb upon the highest step of the Double Trap Men podium. The British athlete has been the only international shooter to enter all of the four 2008 World Cup Stage final rounds, winning three medals and equalling a world record.
Russell MARK of Australia, winner of the Games of Atlanta 1996 and Silver medallist of Sydney 2000, is said to be the most expert shooter of the world in this event. He took some years off the international shooting, but came back in 2007 and 2008 to gain a spot in the Australian shooting team.
Hakan DAHLBY of Sweden, winner of the 2005 ISSF World Cup Final of Dubai, has been one of most successful double trap shooter of the season 2005, 2006 and 2007. He is enlisted between the favourites, and he gained the top of the “Super 25 Ranklist” (an Olympic favourite ranking based on statistic) published in August by the ISSF NEWS magazine.
Walton ELLER of USA and HU Binyuan of the People’s Republic of China are also looking to take a step up on the medal platform in Beijing.
