Alexei Klimov, 31, from Russia, set the new qualification World Record of 591 p.nts during today’s 25m Rapid Fire Pistol event, going then to win Gold.

Qualified for this ISSF World Cup Final of Granada thanks to a Silver medal won at the World Cup in Resende this year, the Russian athlete came out of the qualifications with an outstanding score of 591 p.nts, a new World Record that overwrote the previous of 589 set by Alifirenko during the last edition of the World Cup final in Munich. Entering the match in first with a five points head start on the following Sergei Poliakov (his team mate), Klimov had no problems in closing the final in first notwithstanding a couple of poor shoot scored in the third series. It’s an excellent result for this shooter, who wins here his first gold medal in his international shooting career. Coming in next behind him, the absolute n. 1 in the World in this event, the German champion Ralf Schumann, showed once again his great shooting skills trying to remount the six points disadvantage he had from Klimov after the qualifications. Thanks to four great series, he came closer to the leader, but his run to the Gold finished four tenths behind Klimov, meaning a Silver medal. Bronze went to the current World Champion Zhang Penghui, 28, who marked today’s highest final score of 203.4 p.nts managing to move from the last position he had on the start list up to the third. Closing the rank, the Finnish Marko Talvitie placed in fourth, followed by Klimov’s team mate Poliakov and by Roman Bondaruk of Ukraine in place eight.
