With eight years of coaching experience, Chilean coach Gianluca Dapelo has developed a long-term approach to athlete development, working with shooters from their introduction to the sport through to the demands of high performance.

A National Athlete and Club Enthusiast Coach, Dapelo focuses on Shotgun, working across Olympic Trap, Olympic Skeet and Compak Sporting. His coaching combines technical development with strategic and statistical preparation, adapting his programmes to the needs of individual athletes.

Among his achievements, Dapelo has helped an athlete progress from third to second category in a single season, reflecting his focus on structured, long-term development. While he has yet to coach at a major ISSF event, his experience and approach offer valuable insight into the journey of developing athletes.
What is your coaching philosophy in one sentence?
One at a time.

What is the one habit you try to build in every athlete you coach?
Forecasting for a healthy life balance.

At elite level, what separates a good shooter from a great one?
Ease of mind.

How do you balance technical training with mental preparation?
Technical training has a required timeset through the day, while mental preparation can be programed in different timesets, and this helps adding both to the schedule. I like to use technologies to help ease the process of comunication and performance record: Shooting Data is a great free tool for athletes and coaches that want to have data acquisition as easy and fast as it gets.
