ISSF Junior World Championship Suhl: Tanfoglio equals World Record Junior as Italy dominates Trap Men Junior in Suhl

Italy's Francesco Tanfoglio delivered a masterclass in consistency to claim the Trap Men Junior title at the ISSF Junior World Championship Rifle / Pistol / Shotgun Suhl 2026, equalling the World Record Junior (EWRJ) with 28 hits in a high-quality final.

Spain's Eduard Salichs secured the silver medal with 27 hits after pushing the Italian all the way to the closing stages, while fellow Italian Luca Gerri completed the podium with bronze.

Tanfoglio arrived in the final as one of the standout performers of the championship and lived up to expectations with a near-perfect display. Missing only two targets throughout the contest, the Italian athlete matched the World Record Junior of 28 hits and demonstrated exceptional composure under pressure. The victory crowns an outstanding week in Suhl and further establishes Tanfoglio as one of the leading talents in junior trap shooting.
Silver medallist Eduard Salichs produced a superb performance of his own, finishing just one target behind the champion. The Spanish shooter remained firmly in contention for gold throughout the final and repeatedly responded to the pressure with perfect series. His silver medal is another significant achievement for a young athlete who has steadily built a reputation as one of Europe's most promising junior shotgun competitors.
The bronze medal went to Luca Gerri, ensuring a second place on the podium for Italy. Gerri displayed remarkable consistency throughout the competition and looked capable of challenging for gold before the elimination stages tightened the contest. His medal, combined with Tanfoglio's victory, highlighted the strength and depth of Italy's junior trap programme.
Jack Heslip of New Zealand finished fourth after an impressive run to the final. The young shooter kept himself in medal contention deep into the competition and secured one of the best results of his international career on the world stage.

Croatia's Toni Gudelj placed fifth, continuing the strong form he had shown throughout qualification. Gudelj has become a regular contender at major junior events and once again demonstrated his ability to compete against the world's best.
Sixth place went to Cameron Ford of Australia, who entered the final after topping qualification with an outstanding 122 targets. Although he narrowly missed the medals, his performance throughout the championship confirmed his status as one of the event's leading athletes.

Hussein Daruich of Brazil and Kaleb Horinek of the United States finished seventh and eighth respectively, completing a truly international final featuring athletes from five continents.
TEAM RESULTS

Italy's success extended beyond the individual competition as the nation secured the Trap Men Junior Team title with a remarkable total of 360 targets. Tanfoglio, Gerri and Andrea Diana combined for one of the strongest team performances of the championship, with both Tanfoglio and Gerri posting outstanding qualification scores of 121. Spain claimed the silver medal with 358, led by another excellent 121 from Salichs, while Türkiye took bronze with 351 after winning a countback against Croatia. The team event underlined the extraordinary depth of talent within the Italian junior trap squad and capped a memorable championship performance for the nation.

With a gold medal, an equalled World Record Junior, and the team title, Italy enjoyed a dominant day in Suhl as the ISSF Junior World Championship 2026 continued to showcase the future stars of international shooting sport.
