On 17 February, leadership representatives of the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) met with organisers of the 2030 Commonwealth Games in Amdavad, along with key stakeholders and officials, to present proposals for the inclusion of shooting sport in the Games’ sporting programme. Representatives of Commonwealth Sport attended the meeting to observe the discussions and proceedings.
The ISSF delegation was led by President Luciano Rossi, supported by Sport Director Peter Underhill and Hamish McInnes in his role as ISSF Commonwealth Ambassador. The delegation was also assisted by Pawan Kumar Singh, Secretary General of the National Rifle Association of India, who contributed valuable local knowledge and expertise to the discussions.
As one of the optional sports permitted under Commonwealth Games regulations, the ISSF presented a range of proposals and delivery models for consideration by the Amdavad Organising Committee. The process was overseen and facilitated by CAA Portas, consultants appointed by Commonwealth Sport to ensure a fair and balanced assessment of all submissions from International Federations seeking inclusion.

During the presentation, the ISSF outlined several key aspects focused primarily on event delivery options. These included the potential organisation of all Olympic shooting disciplines and events, including team pair formats, as well as flexible Paralympic event opportunities integrated within a single competition schedule. The ISSF also highlighted the global reach and strength of shooting sport across all five continents of the Commonwealth, emphasising how the sport provides medal opportunities for both larger and smaller nations and island states. Possible existing venue options within Amdavad and the wider Gujarat region were discussed, all offering suitable range capacity and supporting infrastructure to deliver a full shooting programme.
The discussions also addressed the strong standing and popularity of shooting sport in India, its growing appeal among young athletes, and the contribution of the sport’s ecosystem to broader sporting development across the Commonwealth. Engagement with youth and the accessibility of shooting sport were presented as important elements supporting the long-term vision of the Games.
The next step in the process will see Commonwealth Sport, in cooperation with the Amdavad 2030 Organising Committee, assess and determine the optional sports to be included in the final sporting programme. The International Federation bidding process closes on 6 March, with final decisions expected to be announced in April 2026. The ISSF looks forward with confidence to the outcome and to working closely with Commonwealth Sport, Amdavad 2030 and all partners on the road to the Games.
