A busy June saw 41 participants receive their certification as qualified ISSF judges following their courses in Singapore and the Republic of Korea respectively.
Both courses were led by instructor Henry Oka from Indonesia, who is a member of the ISSF Pistol Committee. He first travelled to the Korean city of Changwon from 5th to the 9th of June to oversee a group of 34 participants, followed by a five-day course from the 11th to the 15th of June in Singapore, which featured seven candidates.
The first of these was held at the Changwon Shooting Range and organised by the Korea Shooting Federation (KSF) and the Korea Shooting Federation for the Disabled (KSFD), with the Opening Ceremony led by KSFD President Moon Sang-pil. Kim Il Hwan assisted Mr. Oka as the assistant instructor, also providing translation to participants when necessary. That said, all participants had a solid understanding of English, even when not fluent.
A total of 13 women and 21 men attended the course, all of whom previously officiated as coaches and range officers in both national and international events in their home country.
It was a tremendous success as all attendees passed the rifle course at the international level. 27 passes the pistol course, with the other seven instead recommended for a national license, rather than an international one.
The level of comprehension in both Korean and English was very strong too due to the KSF and KSFD's approach with a bilingual rule book which is compiled and circulated nationally.

The success continued when Mr. Oka moved onto Singapore. He was supported by assistant instructors Eddie Lim Chek Kwang and Edmund Goh Wen Yong from the home nation at the Denker Shooting Range.
It was organised by the Singapore Shooting Association (SSA) and attended by nine participants - two were attending pistol refreshing courses and seven were doing so for the first time, seeking their qualifications. Mr. Goh, who is also the Training & Competition Manager of SSA, officially opened the event.
A strict selection policy was in place for participation, with the SSA requiring all candidates to hold a valid National Judges License, to have officiating experience in national and/or international events held in Singapore and to have passed an internal pre-course selection test. As a result, the high-quality field all passed their rifle and pistol exams.
Additionally, Dr. James Lally, the Chair of the ISSF Medical Committee and member of the IOC Medical Committee, delivered an online session on ISSF Integrity and Health-Related Responsibilities on the opening day. He presented topics such as anti-doping under the International Testing Agency framework, Therapeutic Use Exemptions, mental health initiatives and safeguarding.
Mr. Oka also praised the knowledge of the attendees, saying: "Participants demonstrated a good command of English, sound rule knowledge, and a high level of critical thinking. The classroom was highly engaged, with rich discussions on real-case scenarios from prior championships."
