After a week of tremendous action in Buenos Aires, Argentina, the second leg of the ISSF World Cup double-header in South America is set to get underway in the capital of Peru, Lima.

Many athletes will have the opportunity to replicate their glory or have a second chance to impress when they compete at Las Palmas Shooting Range.

A total of 392 athletes from 43 National Federations are set to compete from 15th to 21st of April, having 594 starts between them.

There is a team of 37 from the host nation, most notable of these is Nicolas Pacheco, Peru's last World Cup gold medallist. Pacheco won the men's skeet title in 2022 - also in Lima. He will once again hope for the home crowd to cheer him to a title.

All individual winners in Buenos Aires are to compete in Lima too, which saw great performances for the world's two largest nations - China and India. Between them, they won nine gold medals from 15 and will expect strong results again, bringing the biggest delegations with 46 and 42 respectively.

China's Hu Kai, Sun Yujie and Wang Zifei will be hoping for more silverware after their respective victories in the men's 10m air pistol, women's 25m pistol and women's 10m air rifle. 2023 world champion Han Jiayu will again be a contender in the women's 10m air rifle, and Olympic silver medallist Qi Ying remains a favourite for the men's trap.

Olympic gold medallist Sheng Lihao is entered in the men's 10m air rifle, while Olympic champions Xie Yu and Jiang Ranxin are to compete in the men's and women's 10m air pistol.

Champions in women's 50m 3 positions Sift Kaur Samra, men's 25m rapid fire pistol Vijayveer Sidhu, women's 10m air pistol Inder Singh Suruchi and men's 10m air rifle Rudrankksh Patil return in Lima. Manu Bhaker will look to bounce back with a medal in women's pistol events, while Arjun Babuta and Sonam Uttam Maskar will hope to claim medals in rifle events.

Istvan Peni is one of the main contenders in men's rifle
Some pistol contenders from India include Saurabh Chaudhary, Varun Tomar, Ravinder Singh, Amit Sharma and Esha Singh, with the latter winning 25m pistol silver in Buenos Aires.

Hungarian Istvan Peni continued to show why he is one of the best 10m air rifle shooters in the world, winning his seventh individual World Cup title (including World Cup Finals) in Buenos Aires. Incredibly consistent, he will expect to make the men's 10m and 50m 3 positions finals again.

North, Central and South American representation includes Federico Gil and Marcelo Gutierrez from Argentina, with the latter winning his first World Cup medal with a bronze in the men's 10m air rifle. Olympic women's skeet and trap champions Francisca Crovetto from Chile and Guatemala's Adriana Ruano return, as does Ruano's compatriot and Olympic bronze medallist Jean Pierre Brol, who claimed a bronze in the men's trap in Buenos Aires.

A strong team from United States will look to build on two golds in Argentina, which were won by Christian Elliott in the men's skeet and Dania Vizzi in the women's skeet. Other medallists last week included Kimberly Rhode and Carey Garrison in women's shotgun events, as well as Walton Glenn Eller and William Hinton in men's trap. Sagen Maddalena remains the country's best chance of claiming a medal in rifle disciplines.

Other athletes to look out for include Swiss rifle Olympic champions Nina Christen and Chiara Leone; as well as Kazakhstan's Alexandra Le, Kwon Eunji from Republic of Korea and Jeanette Hegg Duestad from Norway. Austrian Alexander Schmirl, Kazakhstan's Islam Satpayev, Czechia's Jiri Privratsky, Sweden's and Norway's Jon-Hermann Hegg will all fancy their chances in men's rifle events.

Notable names in pistol events include Germans Doreen Vennekamp and Christian Reitz, as well as Kazakhstan's Nikita Chiryukin. Tammaro Cassandro of Italy is one of the shotgun athletes to look out for, along with Ilya Penkov of Kazakhstan, Australians Mitchel Iles, James Willett and Buenos Aires winner Penny Smith; Yang Kun-Pi of Chinese Taipei and Italy's Silvana Stanco.
