Australia's Penny Smith and Jean Pierre Brol from Guatemala won the last individual gold medals of the ISSF World Cup in Buenos Aires today, with victories in the women's and men's trap.

Olympic bronze medallist Smith won her fourth individual World Cup title with a strong score of 44 from 50 targets. After a shaky start of three hits from five targets, the Australian moved from fifth up to the top - missing just one of her last 31 targets. Her consistency in the second half of the competition saw her overtake Carey Garrison of the United States and move clear in the final three series. Garrison finished with a total of 42 for her first World Cup medal of her career.

Liu Wan-Yu from Chinese Taipei took the bronze for her first World Cup medal too. She had looked in jeopardy on a few occasions after a difficult first half, but shook off the other podium contenders, with just one miss in her last 15 shots. It moved her ahead of Puerto Rico's Augusta Rose Campos-Martyn and Italian Olympic silver medallist Silvana Stanco, who tailed off after a strong start and ultimately finished fifth. Finishing sixth was Kathrin Murche of Germany.

Brol was similarly comfortable in the men's final, finishing with a score of 46 from 50 targets, holding off the American duo of Walton Eller and William Hinton for his first title. Brol was the early leader with Hinton and Italian Diego Valeri close behind. The Olympic bronze medallist extended his lead as Hinton started to miss.

Meanwhile, Valeri suffered a collapse in form at the second elimination, missing four of his five targets to drop from medal contention to fifth place, only finishing ahead of Mitchell Iles from Australia. As Hinton started to miss, Eller had recovered from a poor start to move into second. Hinton held onto third as the higher seed in a tiebreaker with Owen Robinson of New Zealand, while Eller went into the final 10 shots with the Guatemalan.

Showing great consistency, Brol had a two-shot lead and it turned into a three-shot lead when Eller missed the 46th target. Brol had previously won just two World Cup bronze medals, but this time stood higher than all of his competitors on the podium.
Wang Zifei claimed another World Cup title in Buenos Aires, winning the mixed team 10m air rifle final with Chinese teammate Song Buhan. They defeated India's Arya Borse and men's individual winner Rudrankksh Patil 17-9. China took a 6-0 lead, before India won the next two. What was looking like a close contest started to look like dominance for Wang and Song who won the next four series to go within one win of the victory.

But Borse and Patil refused to give up, winning the next two and drawing another to bring the score to 15-9. A superb mark of 10.7 from Wang helped her team over the line with a combined 21.1 to India's 20.9.

In the bronze medal match, Fernanda Russo and Marcelo Gutierrez from Argentina mounted a great comeback to defeat India's Narmada Nithin Raju and Arjun Babuta 17-13.

It was looking like the home team would be left without a medal in the early stages of the match, losing the first three series and only managing a draw in the fourth. Wins started to come their way and they managed to bring the match level at 9-9. Argentina went ahead for the first time in Series 11 and kept in front from there, despite a late surge from India. With the score at 15-13, Russo and Gutierrez combined for a fantastic 21.2 to edge past the respectable 21.1 total of Raju and Babuta.

Competition ends tomorrow with the mixed team finals for 10m air pistol and trap competition.
