India moved to the top of the medal table today in Buenos Aires, Argentina, thanks to two golds from Inder Singh Suruchi and Vijayveer Sidhu in pistol events.

Inder Singh Suruchi held off a competitive contingent from neighbouring China to win the gold medal in the women's 10m air pistol.

The 18-year-old was very impressive in her run to her first-ever World Cup medal and title. To do so, she got the better of early leader Qian Wei and her teammates Jiang Ranxin and Yao Qianxun. Qian fell behind Suruchi at the second elimination round and chased the Indian for the rest of the competition. Suruchi finished on a total of 244.6, while Qian scored 241.9.

An impressive last shot from Yao ensured a shoot-off, equalising a 0.7 point deficit to Jiang. However, it was Jiang that won the shoot-off against her compatriot who was seeking her first World Cup medal of her career.

In fifth and sixth were Republic of Korea's Choo Gaeun and Ho Ching Shing of Hong Kong who had a close battle to stay in the competition. Early departures came for Sara Rahel Fabian of Hungary and Doreen Vennekamp from Germany in seventh and eighth place.
Vijayveer Sidhu had a close encounter in the men's 25m rapid fire pistol final, beating Riccardo Mazzetti on the final shot.

Sidhu started the first series with just one successful hit from five. He would have just seven more misses from his next 35 shots, slowly moving up the table. He would take the lead with three series to go before the early leader Mazzetti got back equal with the Indian.

It remained tied going into the final five shots, which saw Sidhu and Mazzetti miss one each going into the final shot. While Sidhu scored, the Italian missed, giving the Indian the gold medal. Yang Yuhao of China would take the bronze medal, after beating Kazakhstan's Nikita Chiryukin in a shoot-off.

In fifth and sixth were Massimo Spinella of Italy and Ivan Semenikhin.

Competition continues with the men's and women's trap finals tomorrow, as well as the mixed team 10m air rifle competition.
