The President of the Shooting Confederation of the Americas (CAT), Carlos Rene Silva Monterroso, has been honoured with the Gold Medal by the International Shooting Sport Federation, for his “outstanding service” to the sport.

Mr Monterroso was congratulated by ISSF President Luciano Rossi during the ceremony in Lima, Peru, prior to the start of the ISSF World Cup in the city. Also in attendance were Peruvian National Shooting Sport Federation President Juan Carlos Huerta and Peru’s 1984 Olympic silver medallist in trap, CAT Secretary General and ISSF Executive Committee member Francisco Boza.

Also there were Fabrizio Pacussich, the Peruvian National Shooting Sport Federation Secretary General; Geraldo Trotta, the CAT Vice-President; Pedro Bascuñan, Chilean Clay Shooting Federation President; and Vesa Nissinen, ISSF Academy Director.

The Guatemalan was a three-time Olympian in the 50m running target event with a best finish of 16th in 1984. He also won the bronze medal in the event at the 1978 ISSF World Championships.

Following his career, Mr Monterroso became involved in the governance of the sport, first as a Technical Delegate for the ISSF. He was also the Chairman of the Jury of Appeal at the 2010 Youth Olympic Games.

He became the President of CAT in 2010, a role he holds to this day. Under his reign, smaller nations such as Guatemala and Chile have claimed Olympic titles.

ISSF President Luciano Rossi said:

“Carlos has been a great servant to his sport for decades. He was a fantastic athlete and continues to show the standard is just as high as an administrator.

“Today is a celebration of his dedication to our community and we thank him for his ongoing support for all athletes across the American continents.”
