Carey Garrison led a one-two-three in the women’s trap for the United States, as the Junior Shotgun Championship of the Americas came to a close in Bridgetown, Barbados.
Garrison, who qualified third for the final, was among the medal favourites with teammates Ava Downs and Sidney Coffin, who were seeded first and second. Soon, it was clear the podium would be all-American.
Valentina Sofia Porcella Bardelli of Peru and Ellen Mendes from Brazil finished fifth and sixth, while Dominican Republic’s Josabet Alam could only finish fourth. The top three had little to separate them and eventually it was Coffin who would be eliminated in third. Garrison would get the gold by one point ahead of Downs.
While the Americans dominated the women’s event, the men’s trap went the way of the South Americans.
Hussein Daruich from Brazil was a comfortable winner by three targets, beating Joaquin Cisneros from Argentina 44-41. Cisneros, the top qualifier, denied a Brazilian podium sweep, finishing ahead of Joao Pedro de Andrade and Haddy Gomes. Kaleb Horinek and Connor Lynn of the United States finished fifth and sixth.
The team of Daruich, Pedro de Andrade and Gomes won team gold for Brazil, followed by Cisneros, Nicolas Clady and Federico Ruiz of Argentina for silver and Mexicans Juan Carlos Trevino Olvera, Jose Gabriel Hernandez and Eduardo Gonzalez took bronze.
Finally, the American team of Connor Lynn and Ava Downs won trap mixed team gold, with Hussein Daruich and Ellen Mendes of Brazil taking silver and Kaleb Horinek and Carey Garrison from the United States claimed bronze.
