In accordance with its philosophy of working together in the interests of the shooting sport community, the International Shooting Sport Federation attended the European Shooting Confederation Presidium Meeting in Osijek, Croatia, to try and resolve matters related to non-approved and non-recognised events on the ISSF calendar.

ISSF President Luciano Rossi and ISSF Secretary General Alessandro Nicotra di San Giacomo met with ESC President Alexander Ratner in the city, which is hosting the European Championship 10m for rifle and pistol events.

The ISSF President and Secretary General expressed their satisfaction at being invited to the Presidium meeting and their clear desire to begin working closely with ESC in ways that could help to ease friction between the two organisations.

ISSF Secretary General Alessandro Nicotra di San Giacomo said: “We are all aligned on the idea that new events can have a beneficial effect for the sport, but these unrecognised events do not conform with our rules which can create problems.

“While we are happy to see new events created, we need to stick to our formal processes and include any potential events in the right way. We have now asked the European Shooting Confederation to present a proposal so that ISSF can discuss internally and approve formally.

“Our discussions were positive, and we are certain we can find a solution that benefits all our shooting sport community. We thank the ESC for their cooperation on this issue, and look forward to receiving their report and proposal regarding the disciplines, ” concluded Mr Nicotra di San Giacomo.

During the meeting, the ISSF also received operational updates from the ESC and their proposals to increase youth participation in the sport across the continent.
