The Republic of Korea and Kazakhstan enjoyed gold medals over the most recent days of the Asian Rifle/Pistol Cup in Bangkok, Thailand.
Yoon Seoyeong claimed gold in the men's 25m rapid fire pistol final, holding off a late surge from Nikita Chiryukin from Kazakhstan.
The 22-year-old Korean at one stage had a four-shot lead over three athletes - Chiryukin, Ha Minh Thanh of Vietnam and Japan's Hibiki Takeuchi - as the field whittled down to four.
While Takeuchi bowed out in third, Ha Minh and Chiryukin closed the gap to Yoon. With both scoring five, the Vietnamese had to settle for the bronze, while the Kazakh had brought the lead down to one shot. When it mattered, Yoon composed himself to score four, while Chiryukin's momentum stopped, only scoring two. Their totals finished on 31 and 28 respectively.
In the men's 50m rifle prone event, Yuriy Yurkov won the gold medal with a total of 620.2, ahead of Naoya Okada of Japan, who won silver with a score of 618.6. The bronze went to Yurkov's Kazakh teammate Nikita Shakhtorin with 616.7.
Kazakhstan would win the team medal comfortably thanks to the efforts of Yurkov, Shakhtorin and Konstantin Malinovskiy. Okada, Atsushi Shimada and Naoki Hanakawa won silver for Japan, far ahead of Hamed Said Alkhatri, Issam Al Balushi and Ali Sulaiman Ali Al Saaidi of Oman.
In the men's 50m rifle 3 positions final, Malinovskiy overcame the lead of Yukov to claim the gold medal. Malinovskiy excelled in the standing shots, coming from nearly three points down. Scoring a 10.7 and 10.6 helped him move into first, finishing with a score of 457.4 to Yukov's 456.4.
Naoya Okada, who struggled in the standing shots, faded but took bronze - denying a Kazah whitewash as he held off Nikita Shakhtorin.
