The ISSF President Luciano Rossi and ISSF Secretary General Alessandro Nicotra di San Giacomo, concluded their visit in Lausanne, Switzerland, with talks regarding the sports programme for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games with top figures at the International Olympic Committee.
They met with IOC Sports Director Kit McConnell to round off a fruitful few days at Olympic House, where they attended seminars and received updates on the progress of the next Summer Games.
Ongoing discussions include which venue shooting sport will be held during LA28, while the ISSF team continue to show strong reforms, targeting inclusion on the Brisbane 2032 Olympic Games sports programme.
The pair, along with ISSF Sport Director Peter Underhill, also met with Niccolo Campriani, the LA28 Sport Director, to discuss how the sport will feature at the LA28 Olympic Games.
Earlier in the day, the ISSF Sustainability Committee representatives chair Sandra Honour and members Andreas Friederich and Stefano Rosi, as well as Underhill, Rossi and Nicotra di San Giacomo; met with the IOC Sustainability team.
There, they spoke about lead in shooting and the environmental impact in the sport. Aside from environmental discussions, participation level in shooting sport from local clubs up to the international stage, were mentioned.
The ISSF briefed on their measures and plans to date to implement their sustainability strategy, which was well-received.
There was agreement from all parties that a phased approach to any change in the use of lead in shooting - particularly in shotgun - would be preferred.
The ISSF is aware of this major challenge and remain focused on safeguarding shooting sport's future, while reaching the sustainability targets set by the IOC, with an aim to meet these requirements by the time of the Brisbane 2032 Olympic Games.
