A third ISSF Instructors Workshop has been held, as shooting sport education continues to improve around the world.
This time held in Paris from 18 to 24 November, a total of 17 students from 14 countries learned how to efficiently plan and deliver ISSF International Judges (B Licence) courses.
Commitment to education has been a priority for the ISSF in 2024, after seven years without ISSF Instructors Workshops.
The initiative started in 2015 under the guidance of former Chair of the Judges' Committee, Peter Underhill, with a second course held in 2017.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, future plans for ISSF Instructors Workshops were put on hold.
This workshop gave participants the chance to specialise in rifle and pistol events, as well as electronic scoring targets (EST).
There were 11 participants in rifle and pistol; and 12 in EST.
These instructing hopefuls were previously identified at a continental level from already qualified and experienced A Licence judges, ensuring each continent has a sustainable level of instructors who can teach in English.
Peter Underhill and Paul Gumn delivered the rifle and pistol section, while the EST module was conducted by Jadranka Strukic with the assistance of new Chair of the Judges' Committee, Ghislaine Briez, who reactivated the initiative.
The course included presentations on the Olympic sporting landscape, ISSF organisation and international sporting relations, judging awareness, cultural diversity and methods of instruction.
In the EST section, students were expected to provide practical instruction and delivery across a diverse variety of EST subjects and were required to deliver a short technical presentation on a given aspect of sport related to their background; creating an interactive forum to discuss how best to develop our sport.
All 11 rifle and pistol students passed, with four passing from the very technical EST test.
