The World Anti-Doping Agency has published its 2025 List of Prohibited Substances and Methods, of which all shooting sport athletes must abide by. Below are the latest updates to the existing 2024 List. These rules come into effect on 1 January 2025.
Prohibited at all times
S-107 and S48168 (ARM210) have been added as non-approved substances as examples of ryanodine receptor stabilisers, which can improve skeletal muscle function.
Guidance has changed on inhaling formoterol - used to treat asthma - which now instructs 12-hourly dosing intervals in line with manufacturers recommendations. The maximum delivered dose permitted in a 24-hour period is unchanged at 54 micrograms.
Elacestrant has been added as an example of anti-estrogen, a type of drug that lowers estrogen levels. Mitochondrial open reading frame of the rRNA-c (MOTS-c) has been added as an example of an AMP-activated protein kinase activator, which helps to activate glucose, fatty acid uptake and oxidation when cellular energy is low.
S519 and S597 were also added as examples of insulin-memetics, which mimic insulin action by binding to the insulin receptor. Xipamide has been added as a diuretic too.
Prohibited Methods
Clarification over blood donation has been defined for 2025 as not prohibited when performed in a collection centre accredited by relevant regulatory authority of the country in which it operates.
Substances and Methods prohibited in-competition
Hydrafinil (fluorenol) is now classified as a non-specified stimulant and midodrine and tesofensine were added as examples of specified stimulants. Guanfacine is now considered not a prohibited substance.
Monitoring Program
Fentanyl and tramadol have been added to monitor patterns of out-of-competition use.
Anabolic agent ecdysterone, semaglutide and hypoxen will be monitored in and out-of-competition, as will gonadotrophin-releasing hormone (GnRH) for females under the age of 18.
Stimulants bupropion, caffeine, nicotine, phenylephrine, phenylpropanolamine, pipradrol and synephrine will be monitored in-competition; as will narcotics codeine, dermorphin (and its analogues), dihydrocodeine, hydrocodone and tapentadol.
The International Shooting Sport Federation remains committed to clean sport. Athletes and personnel can find more information on how to abide by anti-doping regulations on the World Anti-Doping Agency website and on our anti-doping information page.
