Germany achieved mixed fortunes of the very best sort at the World Cup Rifle and Pistol in Granada today.
In the first of the second day’s senior finals the German pairing of Anna Janssen and Maximilian Dallinger won the 10m air rifle mixed team title, and then their compatriots Sandra Reitz and Michael Schwald earned gold in the 10m air pistol mixed team event.
For Janssen, 22, who will seek a second consecutive individual World Cup title in tomorrow’s 10m air rifle women event, this was the second World Cup mixed medal she had earned this year following last month’s bronze in Cairo with Maximilian Ulbrich.
The German pairing had topped qualifying at the Shooting Range CEAR de Tiro Olimpico Juan Carlos I in Las Gabia with a total of 632.4 points, finishing 1.2 points clear of Sweden’s Isabelle Johansson and Marcus Madsen, a bronze medallist at last year’s World Cup in Jakarta.
Greater consistency in the second half of the final against the Swedish pair enabled the Germans to secure the title with a 17-9 scoreline.
The same score enabled Hungary’s pairing of Eszter Meszaros and Istvan Peni to win their bronze medal match against the Indian pairing of world bronze medallist Mehuli Ghosh and world record holder Divyansh Panwar in a match where the eventual winners established a clear early lead.
In the pistol mixed team Reitz, 39, earned her second World Cup title in this event following her 2022 success in Rio de Janeiro.
She and her 31-year-old partner Schwald won their final 17-11 against Bulgaria’s 24-year-old Miroslava Mincheva and 40-year-old Samuil Donkov, individual bronze medallist at the Cairo World Cup.
For Poland’s Klaudia Bres, who earned individual women’s gold yesterday, there was another podium appearance as she and Grzegorz Dlugosz claimed bronze with a 17-13 win over the Portuguese pairing of Joana Castelao and Joao Costa, who had finished third in qualifying.
Both events will feature at this year’s Paris Olympics, having been introduced to the Olympic programme at the Tokyo 2020 Games.
The World Cup 10m Rifle and Pistol in Granada will conclude tomorrow with the men's and women's 10m air rifle finals, which will be streamed live on the ISSF's Facebook and You Tube channels.
