India juniors earn near sweep of 10m air rifle medals on opening day of finals at ISSF World Cup in Granada

India’s junior shooters took all but one of the medals on the opening day of finals competition at the ISSF World Cup 10m Juniors WC 10m Rifle and Pistol in Granada.

Isha Anil Taksale, 16, earned gold in the 10m air rifle women junior competition with a score of 251.8, with bronze going to her 15-year-old compatriot Shambhavi Kshirsagar.

Britain’s 20-year-old Gwenllian Thorne proved the only non-Indian medallist of the day as she claimed silver with 249.7.

The following 10m air rifle men junior final saw all three podium steps occupied by Indian athletes.

Nineteen-year-old Umamahesh Maddineni, world junior bronze medallist in in Changwon last year, claimed gold with a score of 252.1 from his 16-year-old team-mate Parth Mane, junior bronze medallist at last month’s Asian Championships in Jakarta, who scored 250.6.

Ajay Malik, 19, completed the podium for India.

Tomorrow will see the men’s and women’s junior mixed team finals for 10m air pistol and 10m air rifle taking place at the Shooting Range CEAR de Tiro Olimpico Juan Carlos I in Las Gabias.
