Spain’s Fatima Galvez won the Women’s Trap gold medal after a shoot off against the youngest participant in the final, 18-year-old Daria Semianova from the Russian Federation. Another Russian athlete, Ekaterina Subbotina, took third place.
The Men’s Trap also saw two medals for Spain, but not the gold; that went to Anton Glasnovic from Croatia. It was back-to-back World Cup victories for Glasnovic, who won in Nicosia a year ago before the enforced Covid break. Joan Garcia and Alberto Fernandez took second and third places respectively.
The men’s trap final was held under floodlights for the first time, which was something of a novelty for Glasnovic. He said: “It was my first final shooting in the dark and a new experience for me, so I should change some equipment. I think that the organisation of this World Cup is fine. It’s my third time in Egypt. I won medals in Egypt before, so I have good memories.”
The competition will continue tomorrow, when athletes will compete for medals in the Trap Mixed Team competition. In total, about 200 athletes from 33 countries are taking part in the World Cup.
