The two Rifle Prone junior events were contested today at the Changwon International Shooting Centre, where the 52nd ISSF World Championship in all events is currently underway.
50m Rifle Prone Men Junior
In the men’s event, 19-year-old Benjamin Tingsrd Karlsen of Norway overtook Hungary’s Zalan Pekler (18) in the very last series, scoring 104.3 points and locking the 1st place with a total of 619.7 points. Pekler, insead, scored 101.6 in the fifth and decisive round, closing with 619.1 and the silver medal around his neck. United States’ 17-year-old William Sharner finished in 3rd place with 618.2 points.
Norway also secured the team gold with 1852.5 total points, followed by Austria, 2nd with 1846.1, and the Russian Federation, 3rd with 1845.6.
50m Rifle Prone Women Junior
In the women’s event, Zhang Qiaoying of the People’s Republic of China shot an outstanding 105.1 in the fifth series, climbing up to the highest step of the podium with the score of 622.2 points. Rebecca Koeck (19) of Austria placed 2.7 points behind, taking silver with 619.5 points, while Poland’s Aleksandra Szutko (17) finished in 3rd position with the score of 619.3.
Austria also added the team gold medal with the collective score of 1855 points, followed by the People’s Republic of China, who placed 2nd with 1847, and United States of America, who finished in 3rd place with 1846.3.
