Ankur Mittal climbs atop the Double Trap podium, Italy takes team gold

The Indian 26-year-old shooter is the new ISSF World Champion in the Double Trap Men event: it took a three-way tie-breaking shoot-off to deliver the title, as Mittal, People’s Republic of China’s Yang Yiyang and Slovakia’s Hubert Andrzej Olejnik all finished with 140 hits.

Two-time World Cup medalist Ankur Mittal of India became the new Double Trap Men World Champion in Changwon (KOR), after adding 4 decisive targets in a three-way shoot-off that delivered all the three medals.

 

Mittal, People’s Republic of China’s 32-year-old Yang Yiyang and Slovakia’s 36-year-old Hubert Andrzej Olejnik, in fact, concluded the match tied at 140 hits, and while the Slovak shooter only added 1 hit to his score, taking bronze, it took one more double to deliver the title to Mittal and the silver medal to Yang.

 

Despite missing the individual podium, Italy claimed the team gold medal with the combined score of 411 hits, followed by the People’s Republic of China, who got silver with 410, and by India, who finished 3rd with 409 hits.

 

In a gran prix event, 18-year-old Ahvar Rizvi hit 141 targets and placed 1st, while his teammate Shapath Bharadwaj (16) got the 3rd position with 133. Italy’s 16-year-old Marco Carli closed in 2nd place with 135 hits.

 

The ISSF World Championship in Changwon (KOR) will continue tomorrow with the medal matches of the 10m Running Target events, kicking off at 1:35 pm (UTC+9:00).
