Sweden and Ukraine take gold in the 50m Running Target Mixed Men events

Emil Martinsson and Danylo Danilenko respectively won the senior and junior event: Martinsson climbed on the podium with his teammate Jesper Nyberg, who won bronze, and Mikhail Azarenko, who won silver; while the Swedish athlete bested the Ukrainian shooter prevailed over Germany’s Kris Grossheim and Sweden’s Andreas Bergstroem at the shoot-off.

Sweden’s 38-year-old Emil Martinsson won his seventh World Championship gold medal in Changwon (KOR), prevailing over his 27-year-old rival Mikhail Azarenko of the Russian Federation — who won gold in the 50m Running Target Men event, yesterday.

 

To secure the brightest medal, Martinsson scored 393 points, overtaking Azarenko during the second run and finishing just 1 point ahead of him.

 

The bronze medal went to another Swedish athlete — 24-year-old Jesper Nyberg — who concluded with 391 points and won a shoot-off against Finland’s Heikki Lahdekorpi (24), who then placed 4th.

 

Sweden also pocketed the team gold medal with 1171 total points, followed by the Russian Federation, who won silver with 1170, and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, who placed 3rd with 1163 points and won its first medal of the competition.

 

In the 50m Running Target Mixed Men Junior final, Danylo Danilenko (16) of Ukraine prevailed in a three-way shoot-off against Germany’s Kris Grossenheim and Sweden’s Andreas Bergstroem. Adding 20 points to the 386 he totalized in the two runs, Danilenko bagged his second medal of the championship in Changwon, adding a gold to the silver he won in the 50m Running Target Men Junior, yesterday.

 

Grossenheim placed 2nd with the same score, plus 19 and 20, while Bergstroem won bronze with 386 plus 19 and 18.

 

The ISSF World Championship in Changwon (KOR) will continue tomorrow with four more finals: the 50m Rifle 3 Positions Men, scheduled at 12:15 pm (UTC+9:00), the 10m Air Rifle Men Junior, taking place at 2:00 pm, the 10m Air Rifle Women Junior, taking place at 3:45 pm, and the Trap Mixed Team, which will close the competition day at 5:00 pm.
