Zhu Yingjie and Liu Yuqi bring the Chinese flag atop the Air Rifle Mixed Team podium

The People’s Republic of China’s medal count in Sydney increased again at the end of the 10m Air Rifle Mixed Team Junior, where 18-year-old Zhu Yingjie and 16-year-old Liu Yuqi climbed atop the podium, followed by their country-mates Zhang Changhong and Gao Mingwei.

The 10m Air Rifle Mixed Team Junior final crowned 18-year-old Zhu Yingjie and 16-year-old Liu Yuqi of the People’s Republic of China, who secured their country’s eight gold medal at the ISSF Junior World Cup in Sydney (AUS), the first junior competition of the 2018 ISSF Season.

 

After nailing the second highest score in the opening series of the match, the two Chinese shooter grabbed the lead in the following one, then firing with great consistency throughout the rest of the final, concluding with 496.2 points and the gold medals around their neck. Previously, the two Chinese gold medalist recorded a new Junior Qualification World Record in this event with 838.3 points.

 

0.6-point behind Zhu and Liu, a second Chinese team composed by Zhang Changhong (18) and Gao Mingwei (17) took 2nd position, scoring 495.6 points and pocketing silver.

 

India’s 17-year-old Shreya Agrawal and 19-year-old Arjun Babuta completed the podium in 3rd place, finishing with 432.8 points, while their country-mates Elavenil Valarivan Elavenil (18) and Tejas Krishna Prasad (20) placed just outside of the podium, placing 4th with 389.1.

 

Despite finishing on a high note, Australia’s Alex Chresten Hoberg (16) and Victoria Michelle Venning Rossiter (16) concluded in 5th place with 347.6 points.

 

The ISSF Junior World Cup in Sydney will conclude tomorrow with the last two finals: the 25m Pistol Women Junior, taking place at 1:00 pm (UTC+11:00), and the Skeet Men Junior final, scheduled at 3:30 pm.
