The Opening Ceremony of the ISSF Junior World Cup in Sydney (AUS) took place today at the Sydney International Shooting Centre — the same venue that hosted shooting sport events at the 2000 Olympic Games — officially launching the first junior competition of the 2018 shooting sport season.
From March 19th to March 29th, the state capital of New South Wales will welcome 153 junior athletes, representing 16 National Olympic Committees and piling up 224 starts in the three disciplines: Rifle, Pistol and Shotgun.
“I would like to start by acknowledging the Traditional Owners of the land on which we are meeting,” said Mrs. Cath Fettell, President of Shooting Australia. “I pay my respect to their Elders, past and present, and the Elders from other communities who may be here today.”
“It is indeed my pleasure to welcome you all to the 2018 ISSF Junior World Cup here in Sydney,” added Mrs. Fettell. “We are delighted to have you all here in Sydney, and we wish you all the best over the coming days of competition.”
The ceremony concluded with the formal opening declaration, pronounced by the representative of the New South Wales Sports Department Mrs. Karen Jones.
The first finals of the competition will take place on Thursday, March 22nd, when the 10m Air Rifle Men Junior final is scheduled at 11:45 am (UTC+11:00), the 10m Air Rifle Women Junior is scheduled at 1:45 pm, and the Trap Women Junior will take place at 3:45 pm.
Live results of the competition, news and updates will be available on www.issf-sports.org and on all ISSF social media platforms: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Weibo and Youku.
