Ranked second in the world, Spain's Fatima Galvez is also looking for her first success in 2015. A 14th place in Acapulco was the closest the 28-year-old Galvez could get to a World Cup podium so far this year. Galvez won silver at the World Championship in Granada last September.
That day in Granada, Galvez's race to the gold medal was halted by Germany's Katrin Quooss, also 28. Galvez and Quooss were tied in first place, both at 15 hits, in the semifinal. In the gold medal match, Quooss took advantage of Galvez's late miss, and won by 13 to 12 hits. Tomorrow the two will meet again on the range.
USA's Corey Cogdell, gold medallist at the last shotgun World Cup in Acapulco, will try to be part of yet another final this season. The gold she won in Acapulco was the first one in her career. Cogdell, 28, was an Olympic Bronze Medalist at Beijing 2008.
In Acapulco, Cogdell had dueled with Australia's Laetisha Scanlan, 25. Scanlan had hit two targets more than Cogdell in the semifinal, but ended up losing to the American athlete in the gold medal match--Cogdell defeated Scanlan by 13 to 9 hits. Tomorrow they will get a chance to compete against each other once again.
