Quooss beat the Spanish flag bearer Fatima Galvez in the Gold medal match, securing an Olympic quota place for her country, as well as the second individual title of the day after Beate Gauss' victory at the 50m Rifle 3 Positions Women event.

Katrin Quooss, 27, from Germany, claimed the Trap Women World Championship title, today, in Granada, Spain, where the 51st ISSF World Championship in all Shooting events is being held from the 7th through the 20th of September.

The athlete from Liebenthal beat the home hero Fatima Galvez (ESP) in the Gold medal match 13 to 12 hits, after they both had passed through the semi-final with a perfect score of 15 hits out of 15 targets.

Quooss – ranked 67th in the world - had never won an ISSF Gold medal before, her best achievement in career being a World Cup Final silver medal clinched in Al Ain (UAE) in 2011.

“I can't believe it now. I won't believe it tomorrow. And I won't believe until I get back home.” She said.

“I am completely out of words, and I have to fight with tears right now.”

“The spectators were cheering loud for the Spanish shooter. There was a lot of energy at the venue, I used it to motivate myself and I turned the situation into my advantage.”

“It's fantastic.”

Both Quoos and Galvez were awarded a Rio 2016 quota place.

Spain's Galvez, 27, commented: “I am very happy. Competing on my home turf, in front of my supporters, made my day.”

“My aim for this World Championship was to get into the final. I've been training a lot for it,” added Galvez, who had won a Junior World Championship back in 2005.

“I have taken an Olympic quota, and that's the important thing. I am looking forward to Rio.”

The Bronze medal – and the third Olympic slot to be awarded today – went to Australia's Catherine Skinner, 24, who beat 13 to 10 the second German finalist Jana Beckmann, 31.

Italy's four-time Trap and Double Trap world champion Deborah Gelisio lost the chance to compete in the Bronze medal match and placed 5th as she missed her first target in a shoot-off against Skinner, after they both had completed the semi-final with a tied score of 12 hits.

She was followed by her former teammate Arianna Perilli - now shooting for San Marino - who closed the semi-final in sixth place with 10 hits out of 15 targets.

Quooss and Beckmann, together with their teammate Christiane Goehring, also equalled the Trap Women team world record of 214 hits, securing the Gold medal. They were followed by Italy (Deborah Gelisio, Jessica Rossi and Silvana Stanco – 213 hits) and by Spain (Fatima Galvez, Eva Maria Clemente, Maria Quintanal Zubizarreta – 209 hits).
