Korea’s young Olympic Champion Kim Jangmi won today’s 25m Pistol Women Trophy at the 2012 ISSF World Cup Final in Bangkok, Thailand.
The 20-year old world’s n. 1 climbed up from the third place, overtaking Germany’s Munkhbayar Dorjsuren and Ukraine’s Olena Kostevych, to win the World Cup.
The Korean shooter made it to the final match with a qualification score of 588 points, three points behind the qualification’s leader Dorjsuren. But then, with an exceptional final of 205.2 points, she moved up in the lead, closing the match in first with 793.2 points.
Kim had finished in the spotlights already two years ago, when she had clinched the Youth Olympic Games Gold medal in Singapore. From there on, she kept on winning. First she secured Gold at the pre-Olympic World Cup in London, last April, and then won the Olympics, in front of more than 2000 spectators.
“This has been a great season for me. I am happy that 2012 ended with a victory!” Kim said.
Today’s Silver medal went to Germany’s 43-year old Munkhbayar Dorjsuren, a two-time Olympic Bronze medallist in 1992 and 2008. The experienced shooter started off the match in the lead with a qualification score of 591 points. Then, she scored 200.3 points in the final, sliding down in second place. With an overall score of 791.3 points, she pocketed the Silver medal, the seventh ISSF World Cup Final medal of her career since 1996.
“I have been a bit unlucky today, but I am happy of my shooting season,” Dorjsuren said. “I respect Kim – who beat me today – and Chen Ying, the Bronze medallist.”
China’s 2008 Olympic Champion and 2012 Olympic Silver Chen Ying finished indeed upon today’s podium, securing the Bronze medal. The 34-year old finalist climbed up from the fifth place by shooting an outstanding final. With 207.3 points, she overtook Ukraine’s Olena Kostevych (fourth), Georgia’s Nino Salukvadze (fifth) and Spain’s Sonia Franquet (sixth), finishing on the podium with an overall score of 790.3 points.
