The new “Sport For All” shooting event will be presented in Suhl tomorrow. Athletes will run on 400 or 600.meter tracks, and then shoot at falling targets with air rifles provided by the organizers.

The first ISSF Run & Shoot competition will take place in Suhl, Germany, tomorrow.

The test match is organized by the International Shooting Sport Federation, in collaboration with the German Shooting Federation (DSB), in the frame of the International Junior Competition taking place in Suhl from the 11th through the 17th of June.

The ISSF Run & Shoot is a new a sport format which combines Air Rifle target shooting with running. After a mass start, athletes run on a track for a 400 or 600-meter distance (depending on the age group), and then shoot at five falling targets at a10-meter distance. Athletes will shoot with an Air Rifle, without optical sights, in standing or prone position (depending on the category).

The format has been developed by the ISSF as a “Sport for All” competition, aiming to attract new athletes with an easy-to-access sport event. Here, all you need to take part in the match is a pair of running shoes and a bit of stamina. Rifles are provided by the organizers, and no special shooting clothes or devices are permitted to be used.

Both timing and precision count for the medals, and the rules are as easy as challenging. At the finals, athletes will have to run the given distance, five times, shooting four rounds in between. An unlimited number of shots are permitted to hit the five falling targets, but the athlete will be allowed to start running again only when all the targets have been hit. The first who crosses the finish line, wins the match.

The 1st ISSF Run & Shoot competition will take place tomorrow, at Suhl’s shooting range, starting from 10AM. About 400 shooters from 33 countries currently participating in the 18th International Junior Competition in Shotgun, Rifle and Pistol events, will have a chance to give it a try. The event will be conducted in four age categories for male and female athletes, and there are no entry fees. Everybody is welcome to test his or her physical fitness!
