50m Rifle 3 Positions Women – Mihajlovic outdid China’s hope

The Serbian shooter claimed Gold outdoing the Chinese Olympic Champion Du Li by two points. Du finished in second, securing Silver after a neck and neck fight against USA’s Jamie Beyerle.

Serbia’s Lidija Mihajlovic upset the Chinese hero Du Li to win Gold at today’s 50m Rifle Three Positions Women final. The Serbian athlete started the final round in third place with a qualification score of 586 points, climbing then in the lead thanks to a final of 103.0 points. Winning the title with a total of 689.0 points, Mihajlovic left the 2008 Olympic Champion Du Li two points behind her, deluding the expectations of the numerous Chinese spectators crowding  Wuxi’s final hall.

The home champion Du Li dulled right to the last shot against USA’s Jemie Beyerle. The two shooters started the match tied in the lead, with a qualification score of 587 points. China’s Du moved in the lead after the first two shots, sliding then in second as Beyerle fired an outstanding 10.9 on her third competition shot.

Beyerle lost the leadership as she fired a disappointing 8.7 on her fourth final shot, but Du Li did not take advantage of it, as she answered with a deluding 9.0. The two athletes slid back in second and third place, and kept on fighting for a spot on the podium behind Mihajlovic.


The last final shot decided the medal standings. Du Li shot a 10.1, securing Silver with a total score of 687.0 points (587+100.0), while Beyerle finished in third place with 684 points (597+97.4) after firing a frustrating 7.7.


China’s Wan Xiangyan closed the match in fourth place, with 682.7 points, followed by Russia’s Lioubov Galkina, fifth with 682.2 points. Yesterday’s Silver medal Yin Wen, the third Chinese finalist, ended up in sixth with 678.4 points, preceding India’s Sawant (seventh with 674.5 points) and Kazakhstan’s Malinoskaya (eighth with 673.7 points).
