“Wuxi is a sport-enthusiastic city” – WCF: the Opening Ceremony

2009 World Cup Final officially kicked-off form the opening ceremony. The major of Wuxi welcomed the shooters along with the ISSF Technical Delegate and the President of the Asian Shooting Confederation.

The 2009 ISSF World Cup Final in Rifle and Pistol event has been officially opened today by the Major of Wuxi, Mr. Mao Xiaoping, who officially presented the brand new “Wuxi Shooting Range and Archery Hall” from the stage of the World Cup Final opening ceremony.

“We would like to extend our warm welcome to all the shooters and distinguished guests from home and abroad
– said Mr. Mao Xiaoping – As one of the major economic cities in China, Wuxi is a sport-enthusiastic city. As a competitive sport, shooting is greatly popular in our city, and we are honoured to host such a prime event. I wish this ISSF World Cup Final a complete success!”

“Once again the Chinese Shooting Association proves its leadership in the development in shooting
– commented Sheik Salman Al Sabah, President of the Asian Shooting Confederation, speaking form the opening ceremony’s stage – On behalf of the Asian shooting confederation, we welcome our colleagues of the ISSF and our international shooters. We thank the Chinese people and the Organizing Committee, and we wish the elite shooters a fair and high standard competition!”

The ISSF Technical Delegate, Woo Jae Lee, welcomed the shooters wishing them a successful competition, and thanked the Organizing Committee of the 2009 World Cup Final. The ceremony was then closed by the President of the Chinese Shooting Association, Mr. Feng Jianzhong, who fired the first shot of this year’s World Cup Final, inaugurating Wuxi’s new shooting range along with Mr. Mao Xiaoping.


Eighty-five athletes coming from 29 countries will take part in this year’s ISSF World Cup Final in Rifle and Pistol events. The first match is scheduled for tomorrow, Monday the 26th, when the 10m Air Rifle Women Final will take place at 10.30 AM (GMT+8).
