Final 25m Pistol Women Junior

China’s Wang Xiaoyu signs a resounding 10-point victory

52nd ISSF World Championship All Events · Changwon, KOR

Participating in her first ISSF competition ever, 19-year-old Wang Xiaoyu of the People’s Republic of China shot a fantastic second half of the match, pocketing the 25m Pistol Women Junior world title in Changwon (KOR).

At the Changwon International Shooting Range, the 25m Pistol Women Junior final followed the senior one and saw People’s Republic of China’s Wang Xiaoyu climb atop the podium in her first ISSF start ever.

The Chinese 19-year-old shot consistently throughout the whole final, distancing herself from United States’ 17-year-old Katelyn Morgan Abeln after firing four fantastic series at the end of the match. Indeed, after the sixth round Wang and Morgan had both totalized 18 hits, but if the American 17-year-old struggled to maintain the place that brought her in the medal zone, the Chinese debutant fired four fantastic series, scoring 4 hits in the seventh one and closing the final with three consecutive perfect rounds.

Wang concluded the match with 37 hits and took gold. Abeln, on the other hand, finished 10 points behind, at 27, securing silver: the first international medal of her career.

The podium was completed by Czech Republic’s Anna Dedova: the 20-year-old from Benesov won bronze with 25 hits, adding the World Championship medal to the World Cup bronze she won in Gabala (AZE) in 2016.

19-year-old Haniyeh Rostamiyan of the Islamic Republic of Iran took 4th place with 19 hits, followed by Republic of Korea’s Min Jeoungmin (19) and United States’ Sarah Choe Eungee (17), who respectively placed 5th with 17 and 6th with 11.

Hungary’s Viktoria Egri and Lithuania’s Gabriele Rankelyte (19) had to fire an additional shoot-off after series number 4, after which the Hungarian 20-year-old left the contest in 8th position with 8 hits. Rankelyte, instead, was eliminated one series later, taking 7th place with 9 hits.

The Republic of Korea climbed atop the team podium with 1723 total points. The People’s Republic of China placed 2nd with 1717 and Hungary won bronze with 1714.
