4 medals for India and first medals for Switzerland and Slovenia - The World Cup Rifle/Pistol/Shotgun continues in India

At the World Cup Rifle/Pistol/Shotgun in New Delhi athletes competed for medals in 3 Olympic events. Athletes from India won 4 medals at once; the first awards were won by Slovenia and Switzerland.

Aishwary Pratap Singh TOMAR from India showed the best result in 50m Rifle 3 Positions Men and beat Istvan PENI from Hungary in a bitter struggle. Bronze was won by Steffen OLSEN from Denmark. A total of 33 athletes from 20 nations took part in the event.

Among Women 37 athletes representing 17 nations competed for awards in this event. In a hard struggle the best was Ziva DVORSAK from Slovenia and brought the first medal for her country at the World Cup. This medal was the first personal award in ISSF competitions for Ziva as well. Silver was won by Nina CHRISTEN from Switzerland, third was Aneta STANKIEWICZ from Poland.

Athletes from India took the entire podium in the 25m Pistol Women. Chinki YADAV won gold, Rahi SARNOBAT came in second, Manu BHAKER in third.

Athletes from 53 nations are taking part in the World Cup in India – an unprecedented number in a pandemic.

“Few years ago we were in contention just few events. Now India is a tournament force. Of course, it's incredible journey. And government is supplement with all possible support. This World Cup should happen last year but because of pandemic we had to cancel it. And it takes place after one year in such a wonderful condition. All world class facilities and arrangements been made. It's wonderful for Indian sports”, said Shri Kiren Rijiju, Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports.

According to the results of the Olympic qualifying rating, quotas were secured by Slovenia in 50m Rifle 3 Positions Women, Denmark in 50m Rifle 3 Positions Men, and Latvia in 25m Pistol Women. According to the rules, the final allocation of quotas will take place after the end of the 2021 European Championship on June 6th.

The competition continues tomorrow with Rifle/Pistol Team events which are being held for the first time at the ISSF tournaments.
