Final 50m Rifle Prone Men

Torben Grimmel sets a new World Record on his way to the World Cup Final trophy

ISSF World Cup Final Rifle / Pistol / Shotgun · New Delhi, IND

The Danish shooter scored 250.6 points in the men’s 50m Rifle Prone final, pocketing his second ISSF crystal globe and besting Germany’s Henri Junghaenel and Republic of Korea’s Kim Jonghyun, who respectively placed 2nd and 3rd.

Fourteen years later, Torben Grimmel climbs back on top the ISSF World Cup Final podium, winning his second seasonal title and setting a new World Record.

Participating in his 10th World Cup Final the Danish 41-year-old shooter held the lead for most part of the final, shooting consistently and missing the 10th ring only once in the whole match. He finished with 250.6 points, 0.7 above the previous record set in the very same range, last February.

Also scoring above the previous World Record, Germany’s current Olympic Champion Henri Junghaenel (32) took Silver with 250.1 points.

Olympic Silver medalist Kim Jonghyun of the Republic of Korea also climbed on the podium, taking Bronze medal with 228.7 points. It was Kim’s first ever participation in this competition, as he won his first World Cup medal at this year’s World Cup stage in Munich (GER), where he secured the Gold.

Missing the podium in his third World Cup Final start, Belarus’ 33-year-old Yuri Shcherbatsevich took 4th place with 207.1 points.

The Belarusian athlete was followed by Austria’s 27-year-old Thomas Mathis, Bronze medalist at this year’s World Cup stage in Munich, who placed 5th with 186.1 points in his second World Cup Final participation, and by Belgium’s 36-year-old Lionel Cox, also a World Cup Bronze medal winner this year in Gabala (AZE), who took 6th place with 164.3 points.

At the bottom of the table, Japanese shooter Yamashita Toshikazu (40), holder of the previous World Record, took 7th place with 143.4 points, while Norway’s 40-year-old Stian Bogar finished in 8th position with 122.0.

The ISSF World Cup Final in New Delhi (IND) will continue today with the 25m Pistol Women, scheduled at 12:30 pm (UTC+5:30); the 50m Pistol Men, scheduled at 2:00 pm; and the Double Trap Men, scheduled at 4:30 pm.
