Finals 50m Rifle 3 Positions Women

Unstoppable Pejcic claims 50m rifle 3 positions Gold setting a new final world record

ISSF World Cup Rifle / Pistol · Changwon, KOR

The Croatian shooter won another Gold medal at the ISSF World Cup in Changwon at today's 50m rifle 3 positions women event, with a new final world record of 463.0 points.

World's #1 Rifle 3 Positions shooter Snjezana Pejcic of Croatia (32) finished again atop of Changwon's podium - just two days after her last victory at the 10m air rifle women competition - as she pocketed today's 50m rifle 3 positions women gold.

2014 ISSF World Cup champion Pejcic shot her way to the highest step of the podium through the three series of the final. The Croatian athlete finished the kneeling series of the competition in second place with 153.5 points behind China's Zhao, and she stayed there throughout the prone position series with 308.5 points.

The standing series turned the tables of the match in her favour, as she overtook her opponents moving atop of the leaderboard with an irresistible score of 463.0 points, which set a new final world record breaking the previous record of 462.7 points held by Italy's Petra Zublasing.

Pejcic said: “This is the first time in my career that I win two Gold medals back to back within a world cup stage.”

“Having already secured an Olympic quota place, it's a bit easier for me: I can focus on the shooting without pressure.” She added.

“I felt really great today, I have been shooting smoothly through the final and I tried not to watch the scoreboard. The standing series have been great, and I eventually scored a new world record... it feels great!”

The 2014 “ISSF Shooter of the Year” Petra Zublasing of Italy (25) chased Pejcic since the first shots. The Italian athlete scored 153.4 points in the kneeling position, placing in third behind Zhao and Pejcic, and then moved up into the lead during the prone position section of the final, with 308.6 points, and only 0.1 point of advantage on the Croatian shooter. In spite of shooting an excellent standing score, she could not match Pejcic's record shooting, and placed in second with 459.0 points.

She was followed by the 2014 ISSF World Championship junior bronze medallist Selina Gschwandtner of Germany (20), who moved up in third during the standing series, claiming today's bronze medal with 444.7 points. Gschwandtner was also awarded a Rio 2016 Olympic quota place, as both Pejcic and Zublasing had already won one at last year's world championship.

The second quota to be assigned today went to Zhao Huixin, 26, from the People's Republic of China, who closed the kneeling position fraction of the competition in the lead with 153.9 points, but then landed in fourth after the standing series with a final score of 435.5 points.

Her teammate Chen Dongqi, 26, followed her in fifth place with 420.7 points, while South Korea's Jeong Mira, 28, took the sixth place with 412.2 points.

The 2013 European Champion, Russia's Tatiyana Yushkova (32), and Sweden's Lotten Johansson (22), finished in seventh and eighth place with 401.8 and 401.1 points, respectively.
