Shooting sport grows: 2014 ISSF World Cup Series closes with a +10%

The 2014 ISSF World Cup Series recorded a substantial improvement in participation and universality, in comparison with the previous season.

The 2014 ISSF World Cup series regular season was closed in Beijing, China, where the last world cup leg of the year was held from the 1st trough the 10th of July.

 

The best shooters of the world arrived in China after participating in this year's ISSF World Cup Stages in Fort Benning (USA), Tucson (USA), Almaty (KAZ), Munich (GER) and Maribor (SLO), trying to secure points to qualify for the 2014 ISSF World Cup Finals, to be held in Gabala, Azerbaijan, the next October.

 

“This year's ISSF World Cup Series has been successful, with outstanding peaks of participation and great results.” The ISSF Secretary General Franz Schreiber said.

 

Indeed, a new record of participation was reached at this year's ISSF World Cup stage in Munich, Germany, where 1277 athletes coming from 96 countries competed in Rifle, Pistol and Shotgun events. And, throughout the whole season, an overall total of 1966 different athletes coming from 110 countries (for a total of almost 5000 starts) competed in the six ISSF World Cup stages, marking a 10% improvement in participation and universality in comparison with the previous season.

 

Only the bests qualified for the ISSF World Cup Finals, scheduled to take place in Gabala, Azerbaijan: the top athletes selected throughout the regular season will meet the title defenders and the world champions there, from the 21 through the 28 of October .
